The inspiration behind this work were masks of tribes Chambri and Kwakwaka’wakw. They were supposed to symbolise out-of-this-world spiritual beings and were used in ceremonies of transferring the dead to the underworld. In this case I wanted to portray something closer to me culturally. It’s an imp of Judaeo-Christian cultural reference with classic red skin, but also with other colours referencing tribal symbolism. In its eyes it bears symbols of Nemiza, Slavonic god of death
