My work represents grief. This idea is mainly framed around the symbolism of the spiral, vortex of grief that relentlessly pulls in its victims. The form of the ribbon allows for a clearer introduction to the idea of things fading with time. I have included it with the help of a few elements - the aforementioned ribbon, as well as spikes and marks in the form of scarring, all of which add up to one united message. Starting from the top, the ribbon of grief decreases in its width, which represents the feeling diminishing over time. This is also represented by the presence of bigger spikes at the top - grief at its most striking and painful, and less prominent wounds at the bottom. This process is natural as the intensity of any emotion connected with a certain matter must, to some extent, weaken, with or without one’s will. On the other hand, the slender start of the spiral represents the phase during which one acknowledges their loss - at first one refuses to accept the harsh realities, but within moments that feeling turns into bitter acceptance and one is able to realise the brutal realities they are faced with.
